How to save money on your Christmas spending

Christmas is one of the most expensive times of the year, and there is a pressure to buy presents to show that you care. It doesn’t have to be completely draining of your bank account and here are a few tips on how to save money at Christmas.

MAKE A BUDGET

Set a budget for your friends and family that is achievable and doesn’t bankrupt you. Obviously, you can put in a bit more money for special family members or significant others, but stick to the limit.

PRIORITISE PURCHASES

Don’t buy every gift set or Christmas thing you see, be smart with purchases. If you can’t afford a big night out, set a spending limit by only bringing a specific amount of money.

TRY SECRET SANTA

This is probably one of the best ways to save money whilst still supporting Christmas. You can set a limit and only have to buy for one person.

BUY ON BOXING DAY

It may seem cheap, but everything is on sale the day after Christmas. Explain to your friends and family that you are planning to buy their presents on Boxing Day to ensure they get a better present.

JUST SKIP CHRISTMAS

If all else fails, just explain to your loved ones that you can’t afford Christmas this year and just show up for them. Christmas isn’t supposed to be a commercial holiday, it should be a celebration of love and life.
