Focused on an awesome mother-daughter duo, Gilmore Girls is a show that has impacted so many. From it’s fast-paced dialogue to the heart-breaking moments, it’s a show that’ll life on forever. It’s amazing to think of all the incredible gifts the show gave us, so we had to narrow it down to five.
Here are five life lessons learnt from Gilmore Girls.
RELATIONSHIPS DON’T DEFINE YOU
Sure, Rory has many romances throughout the show – but they don’t define her. Gilmore Girls is not about finding a soulmate, it’s about Rory realising that she is the one and in control of her own destiny. Relationships don’t define you at all as you are individual and you’re own person.
DON’T JUDGE A BOOK BY ITS COVER
Lorelai got pregnant as a teenager – but this didn’t define her life. She defies the unfair stereotype and refuses to marry her teen boyfriend. Lorelai works hard and completely defies the stereotype as she is in charge of her own destiny.
DON’T BE AFRAID TO GO FOR YOUR DREAMS
All the women are different characters but they have determination in common. They never settle or compromise for less than they are worth. Lorelai works towards her dreams of owning her own in and Rory dreams of being like journalist Christiane Amanpour. Every woman is fearless and unafraid of striving for their dreams.
ASKING FOR HELP IS OKAY
The show is about independent women – but it clearly shows that there is no shame in asking for when. Times get tough and you are not judged for asking for help. Asking for help is brave and bold, so don’t be ashamed if you need assistance.
DON’T LET ANYONE JUDGE YOUR SEX LIFE
Sex is never a taboo topic and no one is slut-shamed. Women can enjoy as many relationships as they want – just like men. If you want an active sex life, then go for it (just make sure to be safe).
